Established in 1976, Habitat for Humanity advocates for every person’s right to decent, affordable housing. A nonprofit Christian ministry, the organization builds, renovates, and repairs houses all over the world. Using volunteer labor and donations, it has built or repaired more than 1 million homes and helped more than 5 million people.
One of the organization’s affiliates, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia (Habitat NOVA), operates out of Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1990, Habitat NOVA has built, rehabilitated, or repaired more than 115 homes in the area. In its July/August 2015 newsletter, the branch announced that it hired two new staff members. Tom Adams, the organization’s finance manager, is in charge of all accounting and financial transactions, while Liz Salter oversees the volunteer programs, team build days, and special events as volunteer and events coordinator.
